MRO Awarded at Eagle Ford Excellence Awards
This year we took home the Community and Social Investment Award at the Eagle Ford Excellence Awards for our “Keep South Texas Roads Clean” partnership with ConocoPhillips, EOG, and Ensign. The Excellence Awards, hosted each year by the South Texas Energy and Economic Roundtable and TXOGA, recognizes local companies’ community investments, environmental performance, and technological advances in South Texas.
In 2013, when the Eagle Ford play began to see a boom in production, no one anticipated increased traffic in the area would also increase the amount of litter along the roads. However, after listening to feedback from community members and identifying a problem, the “Keep South Texas Roads Clean” partnership was created to address it. Each week, a crew funded by the partnership spends 50 hours removing almost 1,400 pounds of trash from roadsides in Karnes, Live Oak and DeWitt counties.
Thanks to the partnership, the roads have largely remained clean, and in turn, also more safe. In fact, between 2013 and June 2021, the program removed nearly 520,000 pounds of trash from state and county roads. Information gathered by the Wood Company crew shows that the trash collected is not exclusively related to the oil and gas industry, but MRO, along with our peers, remains committed to removing trash from public roadways for the benefit of the communities where we live and work.
